Chairman's Letter...

Welcome to the Swan Theatre Company

I first got involved with the Swan Theatre Company back in 2004.  The reason – my, at the time, girlfriend was performing in A Midsummer Night’s Dream – so besotted with her was I, that I attended every performance, volunteering for Front of House duties and spending an inordinate amount of money on tickets!  The upshot of that was I discovered a group of people who were friendly, inclusive and inspired me to want to perform again after a number of years hiatus.  My first performance with Swan Theatre Company was in 2006 as Dr Chasuble in The Importance of Being Earnest, and since then I have been an active member of the company performing, carrying out Front of House duties and soon to be directing.

The Swan Theatre Company has recently celebrated their 21st Birthday.  In that time we have staged, on average, 5 productions per 12 month season incorporating a mix of ‘old favourites’ and more ‘off the beaten track’ less known productions.  Swan Theatre Company always seeks to perform a variety of plays each season that not only entertain and challenge audiences but challenge and develop its actors, directors and technical wizards.  So... if you are aged 16 or over and you are interested in theatre, either as an actor, light/sound technician or even just to help with bar, tickets or other Front of House duties, then Swan Theatre Company is the place for you.  If you are a potential director then Swan Theatre has developed Swan Studio Productions with this in mind.  Swan Studio Productions run over three nights and are ideal if this is your first attempt at directing or you want to stage a more experimental piece of theatre.

The Place Theatre is a fabulous 130 seat intimate theatre in which audiences can view the action on three sides.  The theatre, which used to be a boxing club in days gone by has a number of rehearsal spaces and costume cupboards and is home, not only to Swan Theatre Company, but a number of other theatre companies as well.

We have seen a very successful season throughout 2009/2010 with productions such as The Pillowman, Art and a modern take on William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and the upcoming season looks set to be equally successful.  So if you are interested in any aspect of theatre or you just want to get involved in any number of the social events that Swan Theatre Company holds then do get in touch via the chairman’s email link.
